FreeVideo.RT.com is an internet resource offering free broadcast-quality video and text to media professionals and internet publishers.

FreeVideo.RT is part of the RT News channel, dedicated to connecting the wider world with Russian news and culture. We are happy to offer our content to other media outlets free of charge.

You need to register first. Once you have registered, you can start downloading video you can edit with. You can also see scripts and shotlists with English translations of all interviews and soundbites.

There is no charge for downloading footage or scripts from FreeVideo.RT.com. Click here for terms and conditions of use.

Anybody with an internet connection. FreeVideo.RT.com works on all web browsers.

Not all. FreeVideo.RT.com uploads Russian pool material without the RT logo. Customers can use Russian pool on the same terms and conditions as RT video. Click here for terms and conditions.

It’s a clip giving a flavor of the downloadable video. The preview clip can be viewed without registering.

Standard Definition videos are available in industry standard DV (Digital Video), high quality MPEG-2, mobile device oriented MPEG-4, and in high quality widescreen MPEG-4.

We are uploading more HD videos every day. High Definition Videos are distributed in high quality MPEG-4.

Once registered, you will be able to make your download selection by choosing the right format in the preview window.

What do the tabs "HD", "SD" and "SD16:9" mean?

Freevideo distributes video at different screen formats and resolutions.

The "HD" tab contains video shot in Full High Definition at 1920x1080 resolution. It is encoded in progressive format at 25 frames per second using the H264 codec at 10Mb/s.

"SD" is a section reserved for Standard Definition video shot in DV PAL format at 720x576 pixels. We currently distribute this video in DV, MPEG-2 at 6Mb/s, MPEG-4 at 450Kb/s, and FLV at 1Mb/s.

"SD 16:9" tab contains Standard Definition formatted to 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Videos are encoded in progressive format at 25 frames per second using the H264 codec at 10Mb/s.

Our archive contains SD videos, but more videos are being uploaded in HD on a daily basis.

The videos in DV format are intended for use with professional equipment and software, for TV broadcast, and are not optimized for standard media players.

To get the best results on your computer, you may need to update the codecs on your media player, or adjust the settings on your player to allow high-resolution video.

If the image consists of a series of lines, this is due to a technical difference in the way computer monitors and TV sets process images. On a TV screen, this problem will not occur.

In some media players, this issue can be fixed by enabling “progressive scanning”.

Registered users can see the size of each file in megabytes by clicking on the selected video.

Try again. Our site supports resume functionality. If you are using Opera or Firefox, you can simply resume the download, by clicking on “repeat download”. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will have to restart the download from scratch.

Yes. Type what you’re looking for in the search box. Use people’s names, events, dates, countries etc, to find what you want. You can also carry out a tag-based search. By clicking on a specific tag, a selection of videos marked with that tag will appear on your screen.

The “profile” button shows the videos you’ve downloaded since registering. Just click it to see what you’ve transferred.

This section lets you download complete packages, ready for broadcast – with voice overs and correspondent stand-ups included. They have been aired on RT, and display the channel’s watermark.

Each of our ready-to-air videos has a separate voice track that allows you to change the voice over for your language of broadcast.

We’re uploading a series of videos to help you cover special events. The stories in these sections will focus on the exact events described by the name of the section. For example, stories in the WWII section will focus on the war itself, the veterans, and on preparations for anniversary celebrations, including the annual victory parade in Red Square on May 9. You can choose from these sections – WWII victory anniversary; South Ossetia, August 2008 war; MAKS-2011 International Airshow.

These are longer and lightly edited clips of (mainly Russian) locations, personalities, themes, events and industries which may be useful for editors looking for stock footage to edit with.

After researching this issue and seeing only moderate demand for these languages, we decided to provide FreeVideo scripts only in the languages in which RT broadcasts, i.e. English, Arabic, Spanish and Russian.
